A tense spinal cord exerts a pull on the brainstem which attaches to it at the bottom of your skull. The common experience of brain fog that we try to alleviate by taking stimulants like caffeine and sugar, is almost always related to this unnatural pull on the brainstem. With all the problems that poor structure can cause in the body, no wonder people feel stressed and tired all the time!

We all know stress is bad for health but we don’t understand its origins. In our experience, the number one source of stress is compromised structure. And at number two are the substances we end up taking to cope with structural stress! That’s the viscous cycle that we’re all victims of as individuals that build this society. It’s any surprise that people are so reactive in their behavior!

When you are under chronic stress, you have cortisol running through your veins 24/7. Cortisol is a hormone that signals the body to prepare for fight, flight, or fear scenarios. Its presence in the bloodstream elevates your sympathetic nervous system activity subduing the parasympathetic functions. Consequently, your muscles tense up, digestive, detoxification, and repair functions are suspended, and metabolism increases to give you constant supply of energy. The hunger and sleep hormone levels plummet and the body remains in a vigilant, red-alert state. This changes your gut-flora and reduces immunity.

However, thankfully, we are built as resilient creatures with an innate ability to cope during these circumstances. Our bodies switch to a new normal called allostasis in which it’s constantly having to deal with structural stress to maintain homeostasis. Problems ensue as soon as you can’t take it anymore and the body succumbs to the next bug that “goes around”.
